This is the boathouse at Cloves Lakes Park back in 1937. How many days did we cut out of Port Richmond High School to come here and drink beers! I remember when Ronnie used to work at Perkin's Resturant late '70's. Their shift would end at about 6:00am. The whole crew would drive over to one of the bridges within the park to drink wine and unwind. Sometimes I would meet them there. Some days I would go straight there after hangin' out all night, and sometimes I would actually wake up at 5:30am and drive over and pickup where I left off from the night before. I actually have one of the wine glasses left from those awesome morning parties. The rest of them all got broken at one time or another at the bridge. Being young and stupid was just so much fun.... wasn't it! |

Guess where this photo was taken. This is Forest Ave in Mariners Harbor where the Home Depot and the new movie theater complex is. We are facing towards the Geothals bridge. You can't see the expressway overpass because it hasn't been built yet. You make a right at the billboard to get to the bridge. This photo was taken sometime during the 1950's. Cool huh! |

I thought this was a pretty cool photo. This is the Staten Island Yankees baseball field in St. George. Can you believe that this beautiful ballpark is on Staten Island! |

Here's a neat photo. We spent so many hours of our lives at this place throughout the years while growing up, didn't we! Not just on the softball fields within the circle, but also on the Mid-Island baseball diamonds over to the right. I remember I played on a team called Henny's Steakhouse in the Mid-Island Babe Ruth league. We had some great talent on that Team. Jimmy DiCastro, Vinnie DiChico, Steve Gustavino, Steve Vicino, Harold Brantley... among others. Then we had Joey Marsh, Mike McAvoy and Kenny Doherty who played for M&M's Deli at one time or another. Sal Zerbo and Mike Macneil played for VFW. As for me... well... the two things that I will always remember about playing there was constantly throwing the ball over the firstbaseman's head, over the fence, then hitting the big storage trailer beyond the fence from thirdbase during pre-inning warm-ups. And secondly was Sal Zerbo always giving his pitcher the sign to throw me nothing but curveballs while I was at bat. Thanx Sal! Like I needed anyone else's help looking bad at the plate! |

This is Al Deppes resturant. I'm sure our parents had a hotdog & birch beer here at one time or another. It used to stand at the intersection of Richmond Ave and Arthur Kill Road out past the mall. It was torn down when the highway (to no where) was built. Food and Fun since 1921 |

Take a look at these beauties... The top photo is the Staten Island Ferry on the Staten Island side... and this photo was taken on June 8, 1924. The second one was taken from the Perth Amboy side back in 1951. |

Here's yet another place where we spent soooo many hours playing softball... Miller Field in New Dorp. I'm not sure when this photo was taken. Do you guys remember those long HOT summer afternoon's playing in that heat! I remember when I played on a team called the Brew Crew at one time... I was hung-over from the night before... but we only had nine guys... so I had to play or we would forfeit the game. So they stuck me out in left field hoping nothing would get hit to me. I played for as long as I could... I made it thru six innings... and only thru-up during three of them... LoL Hahahaha... we finally did forfeit the game after I just couldn't take it anymore... and quit! Yes... those were the days my friends.... |
